eCPM
Effective cost per mille — estimated revenue per 1,000 ad impressions.
What is eCPM?
eCPM (effective cost per mille) is a normalized metric expressing how much revenue an ad placement earns per 1,000 impressions, regardless of how the underlying deal is priced.
It lets publishers compare the yield of different ad sources on a common basis. eCPM varies widely by geography, vertical, and ad demand.
eCPM in context
To understand eCPM fully, it helps to know the concepts around it. CPM, cost per mille — the price an advertiser pays per 1,000 impressions. Ad Impression, a single instance of an ad being served to a user. Fill Rate, the share of ad requests that are answered with a paying ad. ARPU, average revenue per user over a period.
Together these describe how ad metrics works in practice for an AI app, and where eCPM fits among them.
