Ad Impression

A single instance of an ad being served to a user.

What is Ad Impression?

An ad impression is counted each time an advertisement is delivered and shown to a user. Impressions are the basic unit behind CPM and eCPM.

In an AI app, an impression corresponds to a sponsored recommendation being injected into a response the user receives.

Ad Impression in context

To understand Ad Impression fully, it helps to know the concepts around it. CPM, cost per mille — the price an advertiser pays per 1,000 impressions. eCPM, effective cost per mille — estimated revenue per 1,000 ad impressions. Viewability, whether a served ad was actually seen by the user. Click-Through Rate (CTR), the ratio of clicks to impressions for an ad.

Together these describe how ad metrics works in practice for an AI app, and where Ad Impression fits among them.
